My smart students are eager to learn and love to play games. I have found that they tend to focus better when structured activities are in place. That's why they enjoy chess. Unfortunately, our school is a high-poverty school with many students receiving free and reduced lunch. Students would not be able to pay to participate in a chess club and I do not have the extra funds to supplement this.
