The Count of Monte Cristo is a high-interest, yet challenging read for sophomore students. The novel is an excellence source of enriching vocabulary, complex character analysis, and intricate plot development. Reading a highly complex text is not an easy-sell for most students. The Count of Monte Cristo provided a solution to this problem in the form of a fantastically well-constructed plot that keeps the reader engaged from cover to cover. My students will enjoy the twists and turns of love, betrayal and revenge. Having individual copies of the text makes it possible for my students to annotate as they read. They will also have the ability to take a copy home as needed when they are absent from school.
