A new classroom rug will provide a comfortable meeting area for students. It will be clean and large enough to fit 25 students. They will be able to sit in a cross-legged position without having to struggle for space. My students will be able to start the day in a positive environment by gathering on the rug for morning greeting and morning meeting. The rug will be a community space that the children would want to stay in all the time. Students will learn and practice strategies on the rug to become strong readers and writers. They will be actively engaged in math and in discussions about families during social studies. Collaborative learning will take place on the rug as students develop eye-opening concepts by talking about their science investigations. My students will finish their school day on the rug by sharing ideas that foster social-emotional growth.
