My students love having the opportunity to share their learning with others, whether it be with their classmates, small groups, members of our school community, or with their families at home. My students and I use the platform, SeeSaw, to communicate with families and to celebrate student learning in our room. I currently have one second-generation iPad and one third-generation iPad for my students to share during the day. These two iPads, unfortunately, are quickly becoming outdated and do not support all the capabilities the apps I would like to use in the classroom have to offer. With the addition of these three iPads and Apple Pencils, my students would have more chances to share what they've learned in STEAM activities, literacy projects, and collaborative group work throughout their day. Students could also have the opportunity to access online programs and apps on these iPads to practice skills in both math and literacy. A few of the resources we would love to access using an iPad include SeeSaw, XtraMath, Freckle, Shadow Puppet, and Epic. The benefit of having accessibility to Apple Pencils in our classroom would provide additional practice with handwriting apps on these newer iPads, along with a more realistic experience when using SeeSaw to share their projects with others than a regular stylus. The more devices available in the classroom, the more students would be able to use them on a regular basis. Unfortunately, our elementary school does not have access to Title 1 funds, making us ineligible to apply for many technology grants that are available. I am hoping that through the generosity of DonorsChoose.org, I am able to improve the ratio of devices in my classroom. Thank you for your support!
