My students are 4 and 5 years old, so sitting still for a mini lesson is already an arduous task. Add to that fact that they are emergent readers and writers, first learning to develop these skills, and many of them are also learning English as a new language. When it comes time to do independent work at their seats or in groups, my students cannot stop fidgeting and wiggling! In order to learn good reading and proper writing habits, my students need to be able to sit upright but also have the freedom to move. Wobbly cushions and hokki stools allow for just that. The materials I am asking for in this project will allow my students to get those wiggles out, while also staying attentive to the task at hand. Providing my students with wobbly cushions and hokki stools would be to acknowledge my young learners' need to move, and would free up their minds up to concentrate on developing foundational literacy skills. But I need your help!
