In order to provide the individualized instruction that my special education students need, and in fact require per their IEP, we are in dire need of updated technology that will allow them practice on skills tailored to their needs, especially in reading. Programs such as Raz-kids, iStation, Mindplay, IXL, and others allow instruction and practice to be specifically programmed to meet their needs in ways I cannot do when working with 9-11 students at a time. New laptops would provide better opportunity for my students to catch up with peers and no longer feel that success is beyond their reach. Updated technology would allow for optimal use of instructional time and increase content rigor as they, with guidance, fill in knowledge gaps and accelerate at their own pace. Your kindness will help these at-risk kids feel more confident as students and less likely to give up on their education, excited instead at the possibility of individual progress!
