Help to increase our classroom library to include more diverse titles! My students are learning to LOVE reading, but we need more materials to help develop this passion into a life-changing learning. Having books available right in the classroom has been a game changer for my students. It reinforces the value of reading, increases accesss to high interest reading materials, and allows for spontaneous conversations about literature to happen almost daily. Students love to get to class early to browse new titles, "call dibs" on their favorite picks, and rush to my desk to borrow new titles. Literature has the power to open up the mind and create shared experiences across time, geographic boundaries, and life circumstances. My students live in a small, rural community in Western NY. Many of my students do not have the financial opportunity to travel, even to nearby cities or states. I want them to be able to experience as much of the world, and to "meet" as many people as they can, through literature. I have chosen a selection of books that features characters from past, present, and future worlds. I have included stories from authors of different nationalities and ethniticies as the majority of my students. Many titles feature LGBTQ+ protagonists. By adding these texts to my classroom library, I am hoping to open the minds of my students and help them to explore the world through the pages of these books.
