A classroom can be a busy active environment with lots of movement and sound. As students learn to navigate the day and learn about sharing and taking turns it can sometimes become overwhelming and they need some time and activities to help them center themselves. With the addition of the sensory materials for the classroom, I am hoping to relieve sensory overload that can creep up on young children often leading to tears and tantrums. By providing a variety of activities students can calm their minds and bodies as well as learn coping strategies to address their anxiety and frustrations. Calming light, watching bubbles, working with water beads and kinetic sand or using fidget tracks can help them re-set their emotions and regain their composure enabling them to be more successful throughout the day.
