Just as with many schools, resources can be sparse. The missing piece for our school is literature: independent novels and class sets of books are sought for our student scholars. With these sets, students will be able to choose the contemporary memoir that appeals to them as they read, analyze, and discuss the texts in literature circles. Through these storytellers, students will learn empathy and compassion as they experience the trials of racism, sexism, war, and famine in these powerful stories. The most reliable key to academic success is READING. Adolescents are much, much more inclined to read a text that they’ve chosen. Thank you so much for opening the door to reading for my students.
