Students right now are tired of sitting in a desk all day. Many would benefit from the incentive of another seating option. They would have the ability to begin working in a setting that is more similar to college. When doing most work in college, after your two hour lecture you are able to go home and do homework on a couch. If our goal is to prepare students for college, I believe introducing these settings in a more stuructured way is essential. I also look at this couch as an opportunity to make advisory more inviting. During advisory, I have a small group of students that I have built a relationship with. I believe that relationships could be improved if this seating option was available. It could seem as though you were sitting on the couch at home talking to your family. I truly feel this could alter my classroom environment and provide an incentive for many students.
