Instead of simply teaching students about careers, I'd love to ignite their imaginations by having students dress-up, role play and explore through hands-on learning. Research suggests that young children learn best through play and experiential learning. In my counseling classroom, center time is when we "play" and learn best. It's a time for students to discover through play what it's like to be a hairstylist or astronaut. My students love learning through centers in the counseling classroom. These centers not only allow them to explore careers but to also discover their interests. Using career costumes, books and puzzles will give them this opportunity.
