The students that I have are mainly exposed to resources in reading that are either teacher-selected or are decodable. I have noticed that my students have no joy when it is time to find books on their own. However, I have chosen books that my students have mentioned loving. I want my students to find a love, excitement, and passion for reading- which there is currently none of. Some books that I have chosen are the Who Would Win Series, Magic Tree House books, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series- all of which my students have mentioned. I have also chosen magazine holders so my students can select 3-4 titles that are available in my classroom library to keep at their desks and/or cubbies for up to two weeks. I want my classroom library to seem fun, exciting, and like a treat to get to go and explore the wonder that is found in books.
