Watching children learn to read and the lighbulb turn on is nothing short of amazing. Once children are fluent readers, they are able to learn across the curriculum. Whether it's a science unit on insects, or a math unit on word problems, reading is a necessary skill for all students. Literacy is a skill that will help students become lifelong learners. When passion combines with that skill, a love for reading is garnered, and regardless of what is happening in a child's life, they can escape with a good book. A library needs furniture that is child centered, a place where they can get comfortable and be open to the possibility of getting lost in their imagination.
