My students are 90% immigrants who attend an alternative high school in an inner city. They know about nothing outside this city and the islands. They are students who are in and out of lockup and/or on probation, and have diagnoses of mental illnesses. Unfortunately the school does not have money for books in it's budget. I would like to give my students the same running start as students from more affluent communites.
