Over the years I have noticed that it is harder and harder to keep the attention of the minds of 4th graders in the classroom. I have tried fidgets and exercise balls, but to no avail. I have talked to colleagues and decided to give flexible seating a try with a ditch your desk day! My students LOVED it! Instead of a day, it became a week, and now it has been months! In order for this set up to be completely integrated and successful, we need furniture to make it work. When we were looking for research on flexible seating, we found a lot of information about how flexible seating encourages choice, collaboration, comfort, exercise, and community. These students need more socialization away from their screen time, so we thought this would be a perfect way to integrate more togetherness. Getting exercise ball chairs with a stand will allow for the movement and comfort, but negate the rolling around and being unsafe. They will allow students to sit at a table more comfortably and work with their peers on group projects. Students say that this will help them focus better and complete their work in a timely manner. We are also asking for some lap desks and bean bags so students can work on the floor more comfortably. The students have researched furniture options and helped me write this proposal. They are very excited for this new comfortable learning opportunity! We appreciate you and your donation! Love, Mrs. Giddings' Class
