At our school we strive to meet the unique needs of all of our students. To respond to this need, we created a Behavioral Health Team to address barriers that may impact a student's success. After reviewing grades, behavior, and attendance data, we realized there are some students in need of a trusted adult to help track and monitor their success. As a result, we created a school wide check in program that matches at risk students with a trusted adult. Each morning, these students are greeted by a staff member who helps prepare them to have a positive day and may support them with struggles. Currently we have 55 students that are part of the daily check in program and we hope to expand this program as we gather more resources. In order to reinforce students making positive choices, we would like to reward them for their efforts by providing them incentives when they earn points for showing improvements in their behavior, grades, and/or attendance. We polled students to see what they would be interested in earning. The putty, slime, and glitter pens were appealing to students that were interested in expressing themselves creatively. The soccer balls and basketballs were also items that interested students. The unicorn key chains and birthday toys will also be used as smaller prizes to motivate students to earn a larger prize (and reach their personal goal.
