Who do you turn to when you need help? What if your parents aren't there to lean on? Who will keep you safe? Who can you rely on? Jacqueline Woodson's new novel Harbor Me focuses on the stories of 6 children who face some hard truths about life. These children share their stories and find their super heroes inside. Set in present-day, "Harbor Me" is both heart-warming and thought-provoking. The goal of this year's EJD Reads One Book is to let students know that when they're dealing with tough stuff, they have a school and community that is always here to harbor them. We plan to have many students read Woodson's book and discuss. To conclude this schoolwide reading project, we will have an event that incorporates local businesses, staff members and parents. This event will allow our kids who are dealing with tough stuff to connect with adults who can lead them through it. Thank you for considering us - we hope to make a difference in the lives of our students.
