We live in a very small, rural town. Students often struggle to find books to which they can relate. This library has titles that deal with alienation, such as The Hate U Give, different cultural experiences such as Girls Burn Brighter, gifted students, bullying such as Love, Hate, and Other Filters , financial hardships, and many more topics that my students are dealing such as with on a regular basis. These novels represent a diverse world where being different is seen as an asset even though it seems to be a liability. These resources also provide an opportunity to use bibliotherapy with my students. Having an opportunity to read about characters who have similarities to them provides an example as well as a sense of "legitimacy" to my students' stories.
