These books will transform our classroom library. My students read for 35 minutes independently daily, and they need more text that reflects their individual cultures. All students in my room our children of color, and they will be thrilled to read fictional and nonfiction texts like I Love My Hair and Comfortable In My Skin. In addition, they will learn about the Civil Rights Movement and about individuals who have made change like Martin Luther King Jr. and Jackie Robinson. These fun, new and beautiful books will inspire them, build their confidence in reading and improve their sense of self.

About my class
