My school is in a very large urban district. Most of my students are from low income families. A majority of my students have never been to school before. Kindergarten is not all play based as it was in the past. Kindergarten students are required to read and write by the end of the school year. It is very hard for some of my students to remain engaged in the lesson because they have very short attention spans and this is their first formal school experience.
