Affording my students, many of whom receive free and reduced lunch, the opportunity to perform with live musicians is not an everyday life experience. Many of these students do not have to opportunity to travel far from the community and have never traveled on a coach bus. Opening doors for opportunity to be outside the local community will foster independence and a greater appreciation for the performing arts in society. Performing and travel opportunities are important in order to perpetuate an appreciation and love for the arts. Allowing students to see, hear, and participate in this event broadens their appreciation.
