Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning style by making choices which work best for each of them. During individual or small group work time in various subject areas, students will often choose to move around the classroom. Currently, their options are to sit in the same desks with the same chairs, grab a spot on the floor, or crowd around my small group table. I want to motivate my students by making different seating options available to them while building a collaborative classroom environment that centers around community and learning. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component of student engagement. There are big differences in my students' level of motivation and behavior when they are given a choice in where they sit. They tend to get more work completed when they have special spots in the classroom to either focus on their own or to sit and learn from one another in pairs or a small group setting than when they are just sitting at their individual desks. The wobble chairs that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.
