Is it possible that LOVING to read is more important that learning to read? Second grade is such an integral year for young children to improve their reading abilities. Of course, fluency and comprehension is important, but quite possibly even more important is the fact that second graders can potentially discover that they ENJOY reading! This passion can remain with them for the rest of their lives and steer them towards many successes. So how do we do this? Let's give students the opportunity to read TO some of their favorite characters...their Book Buddies! Students would love to read to Ferdinand the Bull or Knuffle Bunny! Kiddos would be excited to cuddle up with Frog and Toad and read to them about adventures found in a good book. The picture book character stuffed animals would not judge if they get stuck on a word or stumble over a sentence. The plush characters would offer purpose and comfort!
