In my classroom, students have the freedom to work in the classroom where they are comfortable. Some students sit on mats against walls, some choose to be in corners or under tables, and some work on surfboard tables. Other students get clipboards and lay down on the floor. With new floor tables and chairs, more students will be able to sit where they feel the most comfortable and learn the best. A major part of our classroom is working on Chromebooks. Students choose places in the classroom where they can work on their online assignments without distraction. The floor offers them a little privacy when they are recording and making videos. However, when students are able to choose where they want to sit for collaboration, they always choose to work somewhere on the floor together in small groups. They stay on task and are engaged in their work because of the added choice and personalization that choosing their seat and space provides.
