I am the school counselor so I serve all 225 students at our elementary school. We have 25% of our students who reside at the local YWCA Women's Shelter and have traumatic backgrounds and some extreme behavior issues. We have a mixture of various cultures and languages including Hispanic, French, and Swahili. Some of these students are English Language Learners. Many of our students will be first generation college students in the future. I work in a variety of settings, including whole class guidance, small groups, and individual counseling. I also help with students who have identified special needs in terms of academics or mental health.
