I am requesting a sturdy mailbox-style classroom organizers. I have been managing Reader's Workshop in my classroom for over two decades. I've run the gamut in trying to make the organization aspect of Reader's Workshop successful. I've used the gallon-size Ziploc bags for years to hold students’ Reader's Workshop books and their journals. That process resulted in constant replacement of bags due to wearing and tearing. For the past four years, I have been using laundry baskets to hold their materials, but daily sorting to retrieve belongings results in lost instructional time and books constantly being misplaced. This year, I purchased four 30-slot classroom mailboxes made of sturdy cardboard for my classroom. These bins proved to be a life saver in the management of Reader's Workshop and organization as a whole in class. First of all, my students have a place in the classroom that they can claim as their own every day of the school year. Their mailboxes are used to house their Reader's Workshop book, journal notebooks, 2-pocket folders, assignments and their new disposable textbook. The bins have been a blessing. They keep my students organized, on task, and the management lies in their hands, not mine. Unfortunately, the weight of the things they need in their mailbox was too much for the cardboard bin boxes I purchased last month. Two of the 30-slot bins have collapsed and the other two are currently faltering. I am distraught and out of funds to purchase quality bins that will hold their belongings. I am in need of four 30-slot classroom wooden bins that will help my students continue to be organized and to keep the momentum of learning in my classroom moving forward for years to come. Thank you donors, for supporting students and teachers!
