This is a story about a boy who has severe facial abnormalities, and his struggles. As a class, I would love for the students to understand the importance to choose kindness, being a friend, and becoming an overall nice person. This book is beneficial for their social-emotional well being. I believe that this book is also a WONDERful form of literature. It can help the students understand multiple perspectives, as it is broken up from each person's point of view. Aside from the fact that it correlates with the Common Core Standards, it's also genuinely an incredible story that I am dying to read with my class. The class sets of novels at my school need some serious updates, and this is a novel that I feel will help these students CHOOSE KIND!
