Our school has a school-wide focus on Social Emotional Learning. We are working with our students to be self-aware, self manage and make responsible decisions. I am requesting sensory balls and flexible seating, such as wobble stools, balance balls, bean bags, wobble cushions, and a pillow. The bean bags, pillow, and sensory balls will be used for the calming center in my classroom to help students have a comfortable place for students to be able to work with their emotions in a positive calm manner. The wobble stools, balance balls, and wobble cushions will be used to help my students focus on work, expend extra energy and be comfortable while learning. When students are able to use flexible seating, it gives them a chance to be comfortable and focus on learning. I work with students that have attention issues, and being able to us a wobble stool or inflated pad will help with the focus and spend some of that extra energy. The will also help eliminate or decrease the amount of behavior issues that arise. Students sometimes need to be able to find a comfortable seat or a quiet place to get their work done, just like us as adults. The students I work with are extremely behind in the area of Reading. When I'm able to provide students with flexible seating, it is my goal that students will be able to focus more on learning and less on the extra energy and fidgety behavior they show.
