Writing is a great way to escape into the world that is our minds. There is only one problem: how in the world do we start? This being my first year to teach fourth grade and with my first experience teaching writing, I want to make the process as simple as possible. The writing process can seem like it takes forever and sometimes what you manage to scribble on the paper, feels like it is not enough. With such a large number of ELLs in my classroom, putting together a solid beginning, middle, and end can seem like such a large task that giving up seems way easier. With the products that I have selected, I believe, not only will we be able to simplify the process, but the students will work every day to improve their growth mindset. More often than not, I hear the phrase, “Can’t I just draw a picture now?” and it breaks my heart to think that these kids think that their minds have nothing left to give to the paper. I want to change that! I want to show them that writing can be an escape from the real world and a great place for their imagination to soar!
