These books and drawstring bags are being requested to begin a partnership with parents to insure that they are reading to their child at home during the summer months. The books would be passed out during our end of the year awards program for my class. During this time, I will stress the importance of keeping their child reading and for parents to read aloud to them, while they are out of school during the summer. Along with these books, a bookmark will be provided to go with them that gives strategies for students to use while they are reading. “Experts agree that children who read during the summer gain reading skills, while those who do not, often slide backwards.” Reading is Fundamental (2015) I want to avoid the summer slide with my students and keep their love for reading alive!
