Unwind is a great book that allows students to apply real-life references to characters within the book. The characters are dynamic characters just like actual real-life people. Student can make text-to-self and text-to-text connections by pulling in current event articles. While the book is clearly science fiction, there are so many current event topics brought up in the novel, so it is easy for students to relate to the characters. These books will help students fall in love with reading while analyzing themes, characters, and plot. When I've taught this book in the past, I had numerous students tell me that this was the first book that they actually read in its entirety.
