All of my students benefit from colored picture symbols. Students that are non-verbal use the symbols to communicate. Students who are learning to say speech sounds use the symbols to practice repetition of correctly articulated sounds. Students who are are deaf/hard of hearing use the symbols to understand language. Students with language/learning disabilities use the pictures to gain a deeper knowledge of language concepts. Students on the autism spectrum use the symbols to develop comprehension of the unspoken rules of language. The pictures are more powerful if they are in color. I currently only have a black and white printer. A colored printer and ink cartridges would allow me to produce colored picture symbols. I also need the paper to print the symbols on. They also need to be laminated so that they are durable enough to withstand all the wear and tear. A laminating machine with laminating pouches would allow me to quickly laminate and protect all of the colored picture symbols. The three year warranty would ensure I have protection in case something breaks.
