Our school has one computer cart per grade level and each grade level has 5 classes of approximately 30 students. We share these carts during testing, but have very limited access to using computer technology throughout the entire school year. By obtaining multiple chromebooks, we intend to share them between my 5th grade class (all subjects) and my husband's 6th grade class (social studies and reading) and be able to utilize the use of technology much more fully. We have seen our testing scores for our A-rated school go up in recent years and credit a portion of this to the use of technology and getting our students more familiar with testing online. By having access to technology much more often, we expect this increase to continue. However, we don't intend to just use this technology for familiarization purposes. Many of our students live in more rural and even primitive situations where computer and Internet access are very limited or even absent. We also intend on using a multi-disciplinary approach to integrate this technology and build upon multiple areas of study rather then focusing on single subjects (for example, utilizing a social studies lesson to learn a writing skill, or a science lesson to build upon mathematics and research). The donations to this project will help to improve our students' understanding of and competency in all subjects of study.
