We love to use games in the classroom because they facilitate learning without placing pressure on the students. We can teach many educational skills such as economics, geography, and math without the students even knowing they are learning. Soft skills like negotiation and collaboration are also practiced with these games. Best of all, struggling learners will engage the class, content, and target skills to play a game, when otherwise they would be intimidated with "traditional" teaching methods. We have had success with the Catan games and card games in the past for review and social skill. We want to use Monopoly to teach economic and financial concepts while using Ticket To Ride to teach basic geography and strategic thinking skills.
