It is hard for anyone to sit in a metal, plastic or wooden chair all day, especially eight and nine year olds who thrive with opportunities for movement. My students would benefit from having a less rigid learning setting since movement is key to success. You could help me achieve this. I am requesting flexible seating with a Flex-Space Collaborative Floor Work Space Bundle and Balance Ball Bundle to ensure the needs (beyond academics) of my students are met. A 2012 study from the University of Minnesota found that students participated 48% more in discussions in a classroom with collaborative group seating versus traditional lecture-style seating, and also improved their performance on standardized tests. Additionally, flexible seating provides learners with the opportunity to be both physically and emotionally comfortable by engaging them to learn in a way that actually works for them!
