Students come in all shapes and sizes, so why shouldn't their seating. We have shifted our focus from cookie-cutter instruction to individualized approaches to ensure that every child is reached. While differentiated lesson plans help us reach all kids academically, we've neglected to think about the physical barriers that may hinder our students. Learning should not be limited to a chair and a desk, flexibility is key. Flexible seating will allow my students to be comfortable physically as I stretch their brains into thinking in ways they never imagined. Items like the Neorok Soft Stool will allow students who fidget to move in a non-distracting way and still maintain focus and the Neoclass Activity table can be adjusted for students to sit on cushions on the floor with a hard surface to write. I am also requesting a beanbag chair and beanbag lounger. Allowing student choice, whether in the lesson or in their seating, will alleviate physical barrier and create buy-in during the lesson.
