Our school is a rural, high-needs district where 22.45% of our students come from families living in poverty (2008 Federal Census Poverty Data). We have approximately 550 students in grades 6-12. In general, our students have limited exposure to people and ideas outside our small town. This project would give students in grades 6-12 the opportunity to hear the author speak about her experiences as a child during the Holocaust. Our curriculum includes the study of the Holocaust but the history will come alive for them upon meeting the author/survivor.
