I am asking for seventy-five books including Into the West, What Was Ellis Island? and Buffalo Woman. These books will enhance our social studies learning. There is already an empty space in our classroom library for our historical fiction/nonfiction books to find a home. We will use them as read aloud during our social studies instruction in order to help us gain a better understanding of what life was like. Students will also be able to choose the books to read independently. I am working hard to make reading more than a chore to my class. I am trying to find something, some book, some genre that will interest the reluctant readers. I am hoping the "You wouldn't want to be..." series might catch a reader or two that will help them grow into readers and increase their knowledge in history, reading, and vocabulary.
