As a special educator, in years past, I had more of a closet than a classroom. This is the first year that I have a full classroom, and it was hard to fill! With space to fill and emotional needs to meet, I want to create a calming area in the classroom where students can go when they need a break. I've already purchased some items from my own pocket -- art supplies, small toys, glitter bottles, relaxing music, an oil diffuser. They have definitely helped my emotional students, but there's further to go. The physical layout of the corner is still lacking. I have one cushion, and other than that, it looks like a corner of a classroom. These materials will make the calm down corner much more comfortable. When upset, a lot of my students like to sit on the floor out of sight, and the Amazon ExerciseMat and Floor Pillows/Cushions will make them feel super comfortable when they do it! The colorful designs of the cushions will appeal to both girls and boys. If you've never played with kinetic sand, you need to, as it is magically calming. These materials will help my students take a needed break, feel better, and get right back to their learning. I work with a lot of students who are homeless, so this corner might be the only safe and calm place they can relax all day. It would make a huge difference.
