WE need books with rich vocabulary, colorful and engaging pictures, new and exciting characters, funny plots, interesting settings, habitats, animals, space exploration, people, science, math, writing, mindfulness, empathy, kindness, growth mindset and so much more. Surrounding first grade children with a diverse and sizeable library provides a vast opportunity for those students to fall in love with reading. I carefully selected the books listed, choosing authors we know and love, topics important to educating young children, pages that will enlighten, brighten and arouse curiosity. There are books to help my early emergent, emergent and early fluent readers become stronger readers; books that will educate each child with an expansion of the world they already know; and books that simply cause a complete uproar of laughter!
