We all know that reading is one of the keys to future success, and I, for one, want all of my students to realize their full potential. As a Language Arts teacher, fostering a love of reading and books is one way I can help my students to be successful and to reach their goals. In our school we do not have a circulating library or librarian--Individual classroom libraries have to do that job. My classroom has LOTS of books--some provided by the district, many others I've collected at book sales, rummage sales, and through book club rewards. Where to put all of these books? At present I have two metal bookcases, a small wooden bookcase, lots of crates standing on end serving as bookcases in my classroom. The problem is that I still have books unshelved sitting in boxes at the back of the room (and in the trunk of my car) and in bags behind my desk. With these additional bookcases, I would be able to display so many more books, which will increase the selection and variety of the classroom library. The more books I can display, the more opportunities to read, to learn, to think, and to grow!
