We use our paper shredder daily to teach job skills and develop motor skills. Our current shredder is over a decade old and running out of steam. We also have more students driven to learn than the shredder can currently accommodate. A new shredder will increase our capacity to offer hands-on learning opportunities to our students with disabilities. Students with physical disabilities benefit from the vital motor skill enhancement that comes from feeding paper into a shredder and emptying the basket after use. Our students with cognitive and developmental disabilities improve their abilities to focus, persevere, and follow directions. Each day, several groups of students rotate through our job skills room to work on skills for independence. We need equipment that will last as long as their drive to learn.
