Dramatic Play is a Child’s Work Play is children’s language. During the time of the Covid Pandemic children need time to express their feelings and emotions more than ever before. When children are able to play in dramatic play centers in a pre-kindergarten classroom they are able to express their feelings and emotions in a natural way. Children are able to process emotions, practice problem solving skills and work on language development, just to name a few. By providing fun and engaging activities children are able to practice all of these skills in a safe learning environment. Dramatic play takes on many different forms. New resources in my dramatic play centers will make it easier for children in my class to experience different role-playing scenarios. For example, new dolls will be used to help children use communication skills as in a parent and child relationship. Blocks and other building materials will be used to help children express creativity and problem solving skills. I also have a large amount of Spanish speaking students in my classroom. Dramatic play centers give students an outlet to practice language skills in a safe and relaxed environment. When they are “playing” with their friends they are comfortable using English and Spanish to communicate with their friends. Students are also sharing their culture and backgrounds with each other which provides a culturally rich environment for all students.
