My 10th grade students begin every class with independent reading. They have all told me how much they love this quiet time each day, and they are learning to love reading. I am so excited to hear this from our technology-driven teenagers, but I come up short in one area--having enough books for the students. Our rural setting doesn't offer much in the way of bookstores, and many of my students don't have the extra money for books. I have tried to supplement my classroom library with engaging titles, but I can only add a few every now and then. My 80 students are devouring the ones I have and are asking for more. One of my goals as a teacher is to give my students a love of reading. These books would help me reach that goal.
