My amazing 2nd grade students are mastering the art of decoding and fluency when reading and are ready to delve into comprehension and forming opinions about what they read. Students need a collection of exemplar texts that will inspire an interest in an author's ideas and help make connections to their lives. The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) are pushing students to read non-fiction texts and summarize the important information they read. These exciting and interesting books will help them learn how to read for enjoyment and for knowledge! My students are eager to read good books with me during small group instruction. Unfortunately, there aren't many nonfiction books in my collection. These books will help my students learn the structure of nonfiction text.
