There is nothing more endearing to a teacher than a 7-year-old child entering your classroom beaming with pride at the fact that they can read. Second grade is a year full of opportunity. Second grade is a year when kids’ newfound reading powers allow them to do powerful new things as readers. Above all, their newfound reading skills allow them to think. Second graders transform from focusing on decoding to focusing on eliciting meaning, a huge challenge but a necessary one. One such way to assist them in doing so is by providing ample quantities of leveled quality literature for them to voraciously read. We are requesting a classroom library of leveled nonfiction books which is an ideal way to provide the practice children need to read and think about not just themselves but the natural world and all that surrounds them. When I evaluated what further I could be undertaking for such a deserving class, DonorsChoose was the answer. I can’t provide the leveled nonfiction library that my class so desperately wants and needs without your help. Thank you for your consideration. Your donation will be utilized daily to assist these young superheroes into further developing into the amazing creatures they were destined to be.
