Although these are basic supplies, the binders will allow my students to make their own reference guides. As we build upon their knowledge, they will have opportunities to look back and review, making important connections between our different literary and writing units. For instance, they need to understand the role figurative language plays in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. Once they see its usage in all of these areas (with the help of their study guide binders), it will be easier to identify and understand its purpose. Furthermore, they will be able to utilize figurative language in their own writing. Of course the binders will be used for far more than figurative language; it will contain important aspects of literature and composition.
