These Water Shortage Project-Based STEM kits will expose students to real-world problems related to the water cycle and provide an opportunity for them to research and design a solution for extracting drinking water from salt water. These resources provide multiple lesson plans, informational text, and hands-on materials that students can use to design, create, test, and share their solutions. Students will work in small teams and use the resources provided to research water shortages. Each team will design and build a solar still to desalinate seawater. Once the designs have been tested and improved, students will present their final solution. This unit will integrate Science Georgia Standards of Excellence as well as reading and writing standards.
