First grade is a very important year in the learning process of students. They are building on the foundations of reading, writing and math, while still in the younger stages of life where they constantly like to move around. They are eager to learn and striving to help others around them learn. My class is made up of 14 excited students who are eager to learn. They would benefit greatly from these materials because it will make them feel more at home and bring color and excitement to the classroom. For more active students, the flexible seating will allow constant motions while still being seated and not distracting others. The materials will be changed from student to student depending on the needs of my students and some may be used as incentives to make them more eager to follow directions and complete classwork to their greatest ability. We are constantly rotating around the room allowing students to work in a different learning space. Since this is such an important year in the life of students, I feel they need a cozy place to learn. The wobble stools can be placed at a student's desk to keep them moving while also remaining seated. They can use the flexible seating anywhere throughout the room depending on where it is most fitting. The light covers will allow for a more calm environment which helps students learn the material without distractions. The Gaiam Kids Stay-N-Play Children's Balance Balls are going to be placed at the computer station where students will be able to move and bounce around as needed while working on specific tasks on the computer. If I see that specific students benefit greatly with these right away, they will be used at their individual desks.
