Several of my students claim that they hate reading. They do not hate reading- they simply hate reading “boring” books. We use the Bluford High School novel series in intensive reading classes because it features a cast of relatable, multicultural students who struggle with complex topics relevant to the lives of today’s teenagers: family, friendship, trust, isolation, social media, and peer pressure. The Bluford High School novels feature both male and female characters and include elements from many literary genres. As a whole class- we read and discuss our class novel four times a week during our 10 minute reading block.

About my class
